Why – Purpose and Rationale
Skills for Life prepares students for adulthood. It supports independence, communication, and the ability to thrive in real-world environments. Students learn practical, functional tasks that improve confidence and capability.

What – Core Content
Includes:

  • Daily living routines (e.g. dressing, eating, hygiene)

  • Money handling and time awareness

  • Travel training

  • Community access and social interaction

  • Enterprise and work-related skills

How – Teaching and Learning Approaches

  • Engagement: real-life motivation, choice-making

  • Environments: life-skills kitchens, community visits, in-school shops

  • Experiences: snack prep, crossing roads, shopping, work placements
    Pathway examples:

  • P1: supported routines and object interaction

  • P2: following steps, simple choice-making

  • P3: independent tasks, enterprise projects
    Tasks repeated over time to promote independence and generalisation.
