Work- Related Learning

Work-related learning is an important part of Post-16 at Fox Hollies School. It is closely linked to Preparing for Adulthood and is designed to help students develop skills for adult life.

Rather than relying only on external placements, we provide meaningful and repeated opportunities within school and the community.

Students develop work-related skills through:

  • project-based learning with real-life outcomes

  • enterprise activities such as cafés, events and stalls

  • jobs and responsibilities within school

  • practical activities such as gardening and outdoor work

  • community visits and local experiences

Through these opportunities, students learn to:

  • follow instructions and complete tasks

  • work alongside others

  • take responsibility and contribute to a team

  • solve problems and adapt to tasks

  • use tools and equipment safely

  • communicate needs and ask for help

Students take on a range of roles, such as:

  • helping to set up events

  • preparing and serving food and drinks

  • supporting classroom routines

  • contributing to projects and activities

We recognise that not all students will move into employment. For some, the focus is on developing independence, confidence and participation in meaningful daily activities.

All outcomes are valued equally, and all students are supported to contribute and take part in purposeful activity.
